In addition to our undergraduate and graduate programs, Glucksman Ireland House NYU is home to community classes. These courses are non-credit and open to the public.
Irish Language (10 weeks)
Taught by Pádraig Ó Cearúill
H. Dip. Ed., M.A., Senior Irish Language Lecturer in NYU's Irish Studies Program at Glucksman Ireland House.
Non-credit evening classes in the Irish language are offered to members of the public at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels and are limited to ten students per section. The required text book for the class is Learning Irish by Mícheál Ó Siadhail, available at the NYU bookstore.
About Pádraig Ó Cearúill
Pádraig is an exceptional teacher, and in 2002 was awarded the prestigious Golden Dozen Teaching Award by the Dean of the College of Arts and Science, Matthew Santirocco. He consistently receives outstanding evaluations from his undergraduate students, many of whom pursue the study of the language to intermediate and advanced levels.
In addition to his teaching, Pádraig is often in demand as a correspondent for RTE (Irish Television), Radio na Gaeltachta, and TG4 (the Irish language television station), and as a consultant on a variety of projects. Pádraig is a native speaker from Gaoth Dobhair in Co. Donegal. Lying in the Gaeltacht valley which runs from the Atlantic inland to the Derryveagh and Errigal mountains in West Donegal, the area is extremely beautiful and is famous for its musicians, including Clannad, Altan, and Enya, and for the vitality of its Irish language community.

Elementary 2 (previous knowledge required): Mondays 7:45pm-9:00pm (First Class on February 4th)
Beginners: Tuesdays 7:30pm to 8:45pm (First Class on February 5th), Room 102
Intermediate Irish II: Tuesdays 6:00pm to 7:15pm (First Class on February 5th), Room 102
Advanced Irish: Mondays 6:15pm to 7:30pm (First Class on February 4th)
