Prior to joining L’Oréal USA, Ms. Schake was a Special Assistant to President Obama and Communications Director to the First Lady Michelle Obama, where she successfully worked at the nexus of political, business and press environments. She conceptualized and managed every element of the First Lady’s profile, serving as her key strategist, determining her public activities and schedule, preparing her for all appearances, and handling all political and press situations.
Before joining the White House, Ms. Schake was the co-founder and principal of Griffin|Schake, a California-based public affairs and strategic communications firm that specialized in helping civic leaders, major foundations and non-profit organizations bring about critical social change through policy, legislative, social marketing and media initiatives. Ms. Schake was a founding board member of the American Foundation for Equal Rights, the sole sponsor of the federal court challenge to California's Proposition 8. The historic Supreme Court case restored marriage equality to California in June 2013.
A native of California, Schake is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University.
