M.A. in French Studies
Sakura received her BA from Moravian College summa cum laude in May 2016. Triple majoring in Philosophy, French language, and Political Science, she continued to receive an MA in Political Science at Lehigh University in August 2017. Focusing her MA research in Political Science on media and propaganda representations of race and inequality in the United States, she hopes to combine her future MA in French Studies with that in political science to pursue a PhD. in Political Science, focusing on comparative politics and theory with a look towards colonialism, post-colonialism, race, social movements, and inequalities.
Having always wanted to travel as a child, Sakura spent a semester abroad during her undergraduate career at l’Université de Poitiers, Poitiers, France, where she fell further in love with French literature, history, and culture, while noting its similarities in problems with progress of minority rights in the post-colonial age. Sakura hopes to use her time at the Institute of French Studies to gain greater historical knowledge and obtain better sociopolitical understandings of France and its former colonies with the goal of one day teaching at the university level.
