A major in history helps students make the most of their time at NYU. We welcome double majors and minors so that our students can pair their studies with majors such as economics or politics, tracks such as pre-health or pre-law, or specializations such as area studies and foreign languages. We enable our students to pursue their own interests, through independent studies, internships, capstone seminars, and the honors program. We also encourage our students to study away at any of NYU’s global sites so they may explore global history including but not limited to imperialism in London, the Cold War in Berlin, the Renaissance in Florence, public health in Accra, or the world economy in Shanghai. Undergraduate students studying history also have the opportunity to submit work to the department's undergraduate research journal.
