Elementary Mod Greek II

PREREQUISITE: V56.0103 OR PLACEMENT TEST.

PERMISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT REQUIRED. This beginning course is designed primarily to teach the elements of Greek grammar and syntax structure. Our primary concern will be to build the foundations for basic conversations in Modern Greek. Within the context of this introductory course, students are expected to develop the skills necessary to read simple texts and hold basic conversations. Emphasis will be placed on building vocabulary and language patterns to encourage spontaneous use of the Greek language as it is spoken and written in Greece today. Special attention will be paid to Greek cultural, historical, and social attributes, since the ultimate goal is to enrich -- through language-- our understanding of multiple living Greek realities.
