Undergraduate Advising

French Majors should consult their permanent advisor regarding all queries as well as clearing/registration.  Please make an appointment by emailing your advisor.

Minors and other students should meet with one of the department’s several faculty advisors (they change every semester).

Any student interested in declaring a major (in French, Romance Languages, or French & Linguistics) must make an appointment to meet with our acting Director of Undergraduate Studies, Prof. Timmie Vitz, or Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies, Prof. Melanie Hackney.  Students interested in declaring a minor can make an appointment with any of our faculty advisors.  Students with questions about their language placement should meet with our Director of Language Programs, Prof. John Moran.

Placement Tests

For information about the next NYU-administered Foreign Language Placement Exam, see www.nyu.edu/cas/placementexams. No registration is required; simply attend with your NYU ID.  The exam may only be taken once.
