Olivier Roueff (PhD sociology, EHESS, 2007) is a CNRS researcher in the social sciences at the Centre de recherches en sociologie et science politique de Paris (CRESPPA-CSU). His work focuses on social power relations in public activities, in particular cultural and political ones. He also explores the possibilities for dialogue between the social sciences and the philosophy of science in the framework of the “CoFSS” workshop, which he convenes with I. Drouet, S. Dupouy, M. Hauchecorne, F. Hulak and E. Ollion. The project he will be working on during his stay at CIRHUS explores what it means to claim that « A causes B » for a sociologist: beyond the numerous epistemological theories about what constitutes sociological causality, he proposes to observe empirically what ordinary sociologists actually do with causality.
