Donna Bassin, M.P.S, Ph.D., is an art therapist, clinical psychologist, psychoanalyst, filmmaker, and exhibiting fine art photographer. She is both an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor for New York University’s Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis and Faculty for The Stephen Mitchell Center for Relational Studies in New York City, New York. Dr. Bassin has a private psychoanalytic practice located in New York City, New York. She has published books, book reviews, and journal articles in the areas of gender, motherhood, community activism, traumatic loss, mourning, and memorials; exhibited her fine art photography in local museums and galleries; and screened her award-winning full-length documentary, Leave No Soldier, at many professional conferences and international film festivals, both domestic and abroad. She was also a consultant for New York City’s Department of Mental Health following the incidents of September 11, 2001.
Dr. Bassin has previously served as an advisor and research coordinator for Combat Paper, Inc., a veterans’ art-making community and vocal advocate for increased community support for the care of returning soldiers. She is presently collaborating in the formation of a new Veterans’ Art Initiative called Frontline Arts. Her film, The Mourning After, was awarded a 2014 Psychoanalytic Electronic Publishing Video Grant and recently nominated for a Gradiva Award by the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis.
