Iulian Romanyshyn holds a PhD in political science from the IMT Institute for Advanced Studies Lucca. In his doctoral research, Iulian studied EU effectiveness in multilateral security negotiations in the areas of arms trade and nuclear non-proliferation. His broader research interests include the EU’s relations with Eastern neighbors, Russia and EU Arctic policy. His research has been published among others in the Journal for Common Market Studies and the International Journal. In the past, Iulian was a visiting researcher at the European University Institute in Florence and the Institute for European Studies at the Free University of Brussels. He also worked in the Policy Department of DG External Policies at the European Parliament and in the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP). Iulian holds a Master’s degree in EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies from the College of Europe in Bruges (Belgium) and a Master’s degree in Analysing Europe from Maastricht University (The Netherlands).
