Generalized forces in phase-separating active matter
The phase equilibrium of a passive phase-separating system results from the equality of chemical potentials and pressures in coexisting phases. For active systems, I will show how one can build generalized forces whose spatial uniformity controls the phase coexistence of active systems undergoing motility-induced phase separation. I will show that such generalized pressures and chemical potentials generically differ from their passive counterparts, highlighting some interesting exceptions.
