Full title: The European Union in an Age of Globalization and its Discontents 2017 marks the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome with which led to the creation of the common market in the European Union. This seminar introduces the institutions, politics and policies of the European Union and explains them in their historical and political context. Special consideration is given to the broader context of globalization within which European integration is taking place. The central question underlying the seminar is whether European integration and globalization are mutually reinforcing or antagonistic, and why this might be the case.
