Joseph Rice, the former chairman and CEO of Irving Trust, earned a Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from the School of Engineering at NYU’s Heights campus in 1952 and an M.A. in Government from the Graduate School of Arts and Science in 1968. In 1998, Mr. Rice helped found the new Advisory Council to the Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Science and was named the first president of the Council. Mr. Rice received the Alumni Meritorious Service Award by the NYU Alumni Association Awards Committee for his years of service on the FAS Board of Overseers and as Founding President of the GSAS Dean’s Advisory Council.
Mr. Rice has served on numerous corporate boards, including Apache Corporation, Thiokol, and Avon. He is currently chairman of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, where he has been a trustee since 1987.
