Andrea Long Chu received a B.A. in Literature from Duke University in 2014. She completed her M.A. thesis, “Touching Thinking: Descartes in Bed with Queer Theory” in the spring of 2016. Her areas of interest include trans, feminist, and queer theories; black studies; continental philosophy, especially phenomenology; affect theory; cultural studies; political theory; and the ethics of criticism. Her dissertation project, tentatively titled “Bad Politics,” takes up debates in queer, black, trans, and women's studies to consider the many genres of ordinary life (especially affect, intimacy, and fantasy) which, while formally irreducible to structures of oppression, are nonetheless not ipso facto politically viable, critical, subversive, or resistant. Since 2015, Andrea has co-organized the Feminist Reading Group for graduate students and faculty at NYU and neighboring institutions; more information can be found at https://frgnyu.wordpress.com.
