Comparative Literature and the Subaltern

Professor Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak is best known for her essay, “Can the Subaltern speak” which is considered a founding text of postcolonial literary theory. She describes herself as a “practical-Marxist," feminist, deconstructivist and has written much critical theory to challenge the legacies of colonialism.
