Faculty Presentations
Faculty members in the Department of Chemistry deliver a presentation about the research being conducted in their group. This is an important opportunity for students to learn about ongoing research in the department and decide what faculty to meet about research opportunities.
Register for Classes
PhD and Masters students will work with a research faculty member in their sub-discipline to select their first semester of courses. Students should not sign up for classes prior to the orientation week.
Lab Safety Training
All graduate students (PhD and Masters) are required to be in compliance with departmental safety training. NYU Chemistry's Director of Research Laboratories will give graduate students training on the following topics during orientation:
· Lab safety
· Hazardous waste
· Bloodborne pathogens
Additionally, students will complete C-14 training through the department and receive an identification card reflecting their completion after they submit required paperwork.
Support Services
Science Library
Students will tour the NYU Science Library, and learn about the resources offered to graduate students in terms of dissertation research, database availability, and technological resources.
Scientific Training Enhancement Program (STEP)
The Scientific Training Enhancement Program (STEP) assists graduate students with career training through career planning and exploration, developing professional skills and career-specific skills, and job search and career transition.
