The Department of Biology at New York University offers courses and research opportunities in seven complementary areas: Genomics & Systems Biology, Developmental Genetics, Molecular & Cellular Biology, Computational Biology, Infectious Diseases & the Microbiome, Evolution, Ecology & Environmental Biology and Plant Genomics. The training and research in these areas covers a broad spectrum of approaches, scientific problems and species diversity- spanning the six kingdoms of life. This diversity is advantageous for several reasons. First, it provides our students with a broad foundation and exposes them to different views of the world of Biology throughout their graduate careers. Second, it permits them to gain exposure to several avenues of research before choosing a laboratory for their thesis research, and gives our graduates a great perspective for opportunities for post-doctoral careers.
