All new lab members are required to meet with the Facilities Manager, Vanessa Russo, in person to receive their New Researcher Packet and to learn which safety training they are required to attend.
There are up to four trainings a new researcher in the Department of Biology will need to attend. These trainings are provided by NYU Environmental Health and Safety.
- Lab Safety Training
Required for all members of the biology department (students, volunteers, employees, visiting scholars), since everyone works in such close proximity to active lab spaces.
- Hazardous Waste Disposal Training
Required for all researchers doing wet lab work.
- Bloodborne Pathogens Training
Required for all researchers working with human cells lines or Bio Safety Level 2 (BSL-II) agents.
- Shipping Training
At least one member of every lab that is shipping biological materials must attend shipping training.
